WASHINGTON — On May 11, Congressman Ronny Jackson (TX-13) led his colleagues in sending a letter to President Joe Biden and Physician to the President, calling on the President to take a cognitive test immediately, or renounce his bid for re-election in 2024. Jackson’s letter comes after the President’s recent announcement to seek re-election in 2024 despite the obvious showing of cognitive decline over the past two and a half years.
Jackson said: “The American people deserve to have absolute confidence in their President and trust that he or she can perform his or her duties. Meanwhile, Joe Biden’s mental health is sharply deteriorating while the whole world watches. This is not a political issue, even Democrats are losing faith in the man they put in the White House. Americans WANT a mentally fit leader and reassurance that the man they elected is a cognitively sound Commander in Chief. I administered a cognitive test to President Donald J. Trump, and it’s time that President Biden is held to the same standard. The American people deserve answers. If Biden can’t step up to the plate and take a cognitive test, then he shouldn’t run for President again.”
Background:
- Jackson sent letters to President Biden in June 2021, February 2022, and July 2022 calling on him to take a cognitive test and share the results with the American public. His requests have been ignored.
- Biden has undergone two physical exams since he was sworn in as President, one on November 21, 2021, and another one on February 16, 2023. There is no indication a cognitive test was administered during either of those physicals, and if one was, he has refused to share the results.
- Recent polls show that 57% of voters do not believe Biden is mentally fit to serve as President, and 74% of voters believe all presidential candidates should have to pass a mental competency test.
- Congressional support for Jackson’s request has more than quadrupled since June 2021, demonstrating increasing concern for Biden’s cognitive abilities.
