There were four Asian students enrolled in Panhandle ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 33.3% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Panhandle ISD schools welcomed 657 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, Asian students comprised 0.6% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Panhandle ISD roughly covers schools within Carson County and has a main office in Panhandle.

Among the three schools in Panhandle ISD schools, Panhandle Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of Asian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of two students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
