WHERE: Don Harrington Discovery Center (DHDC), 1200 Streit Drive, Amarillo

PRICE: Free for DHDC members, $14 for adult non-members, $9 for children/students

Join us at this fun Fourth of July program for the whole family as we investigate the physics of combustion. There will be explosions every half-hour, all-American snacks, and patriotic crafts and games for kids of all ages as we celebrate the USA.

Camp Discovery – Superhero Instruction Manual

WHEN: 9 a.m.-noon (half-day) or 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (full-day)

WHERE: Don Harrington Discovery Center, 1200 Streit Drive, Amarillo

PRICE: $175/week for members, $225/week for non-members

This week's three-day camp will teach you how to unleash your inner hero as we explore the science behind flight, invisibility, and super-strength and meet some local heroes who motivate us to be heroes wherever we are. This event is for kids aged three to those entering fifth grade.

Camp Discovery provides week-long summer camps. There are a total of eight exciting topics to pick from, which means unlimited learning opportunities! Campers will study at their own pace with a curriculum founded on science and competent instructors.

Coffee and Cuties

WHEN: 9:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

WHERE: Don Harrington Discovery Center, 1200 Streit Drive, Amarillo

PRICE: Free for DHDC members, $14 for adult non-members, $9 for children/students

Coffee & Cuties provides children's amusement while giving parents a chance to unwind. One of our great team members will lead your child through a summer celebration-themed storytime and a fun craft or scientific activity. Select a time from 9:45, 10:45, or 11:45. Adults are welcome to engage alongside their children or come over to our designated area, which has a coffee bar and seats, to socialize with the other caregivers.

Amarillo Coin and Currency Show

WHEN: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

WHERE: 401 S. Buchanan St., Amarillo

The Regency Room of the Amarillo Civic Center will host the coin display. The event will feature hourly door prizes and a raffle for gold and silver coins held by the Golden Spread Coin Club. Free parking will be available.

The Wildcat Bluff Nature Center will offer a beginner's guide to hiking. Learn what to anticipate on the trails, what to bring on hikes, what to avoid, and more. Discover your passion for the great outdoors through Hiking 101.

Let the "wild rumpus" start! Are you ready to learn how animals survive in the wild or what life is like under the sea? Join us as we learn about the world's wild animals and what makes them so unique to their surroundings.

Starlight Theatre

WHEN: 7-9 p.m.

WHERE: 4101 Line Ave., Amarillo

Free live concerts will be held at Sam Houston Park every Tuesday until Aug. 1. (No concert will be held on July 4). Enjoy a performance from a new band every week plus various food trucks.

75 Years – The Evolution of The American Quarter Horse Journal

WHEN: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

WHERE: American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame and Museum, 2601 1-40 E, Amarillo

This exhibition will be available from July 12 until November 25 and will feature highlights from The American Quarter Horse Journal over its 75-year history. The exhibition will include photographs containing the memories of the people and moments that shaped the award-winning magazine, as well as vintage publication covers and objects that demonstrate how the journal was manufactured and originally packaged.

Toddler Tracks

WHEN: 10-11 a.m.

WHERE: Wildcat Bluff Nature Center, 1200 Streit Drive, Amarillo

PRICE: $4 for adults, $3 for children/students ages 2-17), free for children ages 1 and under

This adventure is for explorers who are five years old or younger plus a caregiver. We'll read a nature-themed book, do a craft or hands-on activity, and go for a nature walk on Libb's Trail. This event's theme is "A Day at the Beach." Dress appropriately for the weather and bring a bottle of water with you; we go on our nature walk regardless of the weather, even though rain might cut our time out there a bit shorter.

Amarillo Community Market

WHEN: 8:30 a.m.-noon

WHERE: 1000 S. Polk St., Amarillo

This event is held every Saturday from June 15 until Sept. 9. We'll have freshly-baked goods, locally-grown produce, and handmade arts and crafts for you to browse and purchase. Food trucks and live entertainment also are available.

You're invited to travel back in time to the age of the dinosaurs! Study bones and fossils and learn what happened to the dinosaurs as your young camper becomes a paleontologist.

Calling all Muggles! Visit the DHDC as it's turned into a school for witchcraft and wizardry. You'll be guided through this magical world and learn the science behind it through magical activities, mystical demos, and community partners.
