Amarillo, TX — Today, Congressman Ronny Jackson (TX-13) revealed the victor of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for Texas’ Thirteenth Congressional District. The competition, open to high school students nationwide, offers the opportunity for the winning artwork to be showcased in the United States Capitol for a year.

In a statement, Congressman Ronny Jackson expressed, “Congratulations to Ashlyn Akemon for securing first place in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for Texas’ Thirteenth Congressional District. Ashlyn’s artwork depicts vintage cars against the iconic backdrop of the Conoco Station on Route 66 in Shamrock, Texas, and unmistakably embodies this year’s theme of Texas Thirteen Landscapes and Landmarks. Thank you to all participants, parents, and teachers who helped make this year’s contest possible. I look forward to seeing Ashlyn’s artwork displayed in the United States Capitol soon!"

Ashlyn Akemon, a senior at Kelton ISD from Shamrock, Texas, emerged as the winner with her piece titled The Vintage Collection. Her artwork will hang in the United States Capitol alongside other winning pieces from various Congressional Districts for the coming year.

The Congressional Art Competition, a tradition since 1982, celebrates the artistic talents of young students across the country. This year, numerous students from high schools in Texas’ Thirteenth Congressional District participated, showcasing a variety of creative mediums.

Congressman Ronny Jackson further commended Ashlyn Akemon, stating, “Her artwork, depicting vintage cars against the iconic backdrop of the Conoco Station on Route 66 in Shamrock, Texas, demonstrates remarkable skill and is unmistakably emblematic of Texas-13's distinctive landscapes and landmarks. Each submission this year beautifully captures the essence of the Thirteenth Congressional District of Texas and underscores the exceptional talent of our students. I extend my gratitude to all participants, as well as the parents and teachers who supported and facilitated the contest. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to admire Ashlyn’s artwork displayed in the United States Capitol later this year!"
