Yesterday, Representative Ronny Jackson from Texas's 13th district sent a letter to the leadership of both the House and Senate. The letter urges the prohibition of funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in any fiscal year 2025 appropriations bill. This action is prompted by UNRWA's alleged hostility toward Israel and its perceived support for terrorist organizations like Hamas.
Representative Jackson stated, "UNRWA, which had numerous employees participate in the horrific October 7th attack on Israel, is more interested in fueling terror and supporting Hamas than it is in helping innocent civilians. The United States cannot be subsidizing an entity that unapologetically supports terrorist organizations like Hamas and works to destroy Israel." He emphasized the need for the U.S. to align with Israel, saying, "Our greatest ally in the Middle East took action against UNRWA, and the United States must stand with Israel at this decisive moment by taking similar action. America must lead with principle and strength, and I thank my colleagues for their support in working to ensure that our taxpayer dollars are not supporting corrupt, terror-supporting organizations like UNRWA."
The letter has received backing from the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA).
Among those who co-signed Jackson’s letter are Representatives Randy Weber from Texas's 14th district, Warren Davidson from Ohio's 8th district, Keith Self from Texas's 3rd district, Diana Harshbarger from Tennessee's 1st district, Tom Tiffany from Wisconsin's 7th district, Dan Meuser from Pennsylvania's 9th district, Joe Wilson from South Carolina's 2nd district, and Tom Kean Jr. from New Jersey's 7th district.
