Representatives Ronny Jackson and Brad Sherman have taken a stand to protect Israel by leading a bipartisan effort to address concerns over the recent election of Nawaf Salam as the president of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
In a letter addressed to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Jackson expressed deep concerns over Judge Salam's bias against Israel, stating, "It is abhorrent that somebody so blatantly biased and antisemitic is elected as president of the ICJ in the first place, let alone be allowed to rule on this sham anti-Israel case brought by South Africa against the Jewish state." Jackson emphasized the importance of standing strong with Israel and holding the ICJ accountable.
Sherman echoed Jackson's sentiments, highlighting that Judge Salam's actions are in direct violation of the ICJ charter. Sherman emphasized the need for Judge Salam to recuse himself from the case involving Israel to maintain trust and credibility in the ICJ.
A statement from FDD Action supported the bipartisan letter, stating, "The bipartisan letter clearly illuminates why Judge Salam should recuse himself from the Israel-related cases before the Court." The statement further expressed concerns that Judge Salam's bias may unfairly impact decisions regarding Israel.
The letter, co-signed by a group of representatives including Guy Reschenthaler, Neal Dunn, Keith Self, Andrew Garbarino, Anthony D'Esposito, Bill Posey, and Josh Gottheimer, is also supported by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
The full letter can be accessed online and serves as a call to action to ensure fairness and impartiality in cases involving Israel at the ICJ.
