WASHINGTON — Representatives Ronny Jackson (TX-13) and August Pfluger (TX-11) have introduced legislation to prevent the implementation of a "remain in Texas" policy for illegal aliens crossing the border. The Biden administration's proposed policy would require migrants to stay in Texas while awaiting asylum screening. This bill aims to prohibit Secretary Mayorkas from enforcing this policy.
According to Jackson, the open-border policies of the Biden administration have caused pain and destruction in Texas, a state that has long experienced the consequences of such policies. He highlighted the alarming number of illegal immigrants welcomed into the United States since Biden took office, including individuals from the terrorist watchlist. Jackson emphasized that Texas should not have to bear the burden of liberal border policies that harm Americans and disrupt their way of life. He stated, "I will not stand for the hypocrisy of liberal politicians who advocated for sanctuary cities and now want to force illegal immigrants to stay in Texas."
Pfluger echoed Jackson's sentiments, stating that Texans will not tolerate any "remain in Texas" plan from the Biden administration. He criticized liberal sanctuary cities that obstruct federal immigration laws while expecting Texas to handle the consequences of the border crisis. Pfluger emphasized that the "remain in Texas" policy proposed by Biden must be discarded.
The bill introduced by Jackson and Pfluger has garnered support from various organizations, including the Texas Public Policy Foundation, Heritage Foundation, Federation for American Immigration Reform, and NumbersUSA. Ryan Walker, Executive VP of Heritage Action, called on Congress to pass the bill in its entirety to secure the border and push back against failed sanctuary city policies.
Joe Catham, President of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, criticized President Biden's attempt to shield sanctuary cities from the consequences of his open-border policies. He commended the bill for ensuring that all Americans bear the burden of the President's policies and holding him accountable for the backlash felt across the country.
The legislation has also gained the support of several representatives, including Jake Ellzey, Brian Babin, and Pat Fallon from Texas. Additionally, representatives from other states, such as Arizona, South Carolina, and Mississippi, have cosponsored the bill.
The full text of the bill can be found on the official website. As the debate on immigration continues, the efforts of Representatives Jackson and Pfluger illustrate their commitment to addressing the border crisis and protecting the interests of Texas and the United States as a whole.
