The Pottsboro Library hopes to receive a grant to help increase access to virtual health care.
Right now, the library doesn't have a private room available for people to have a conversation by way of Telehealth. Should the library receive funding through State Farm Neighborhood Assist, staff plans to put the money toward building a wheelchair accessible soundproof room complete with a desk, computer, video screen, scale and blood pressure cuff.
The library would also like to appoint a director to run the Telehealth program. The director would be responsible for scheduling appointments as well as working with local veterans, the elderly, and others who live within walking distance and don't have access to a means of transportation.
Lindy Meiser, who submitted the application on behalf of Friends of the Pottsboro Area Public Library, noted that traveling to medical appointments has always been difficult for the Pottsboro area and has become more prominent because of issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
