As part of the community response to COVID-19 in Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle/South Plains area, an online registry has been established for healthcare volunteers.
The Panhandle/South Plains Medical Responder Registry (PSPMRR) is a database of nurses, advanced-practice nurses, nursing students, respiratory therapists and other health professionals and students who are willing to volunteer with patient care in communities needing such assistance.
The goal of the database is identify nurses and other health professionals who are not currently working in a hospital or nursing facility supporting the COVID-19 response.

In a disaster, PSPMRR volunteers may be activated to provide surge capacity to area medical facilities and other emergency management partners. Members can also help assist in shelters, distribute medicines and provide information and assistance to the community in many other ways.
Volunteers attend orientation and quarterly meetings and participate in relevant training activities as their schedule allows.
Continued participation can include preparedness exercises, community health activities, flu clinics, vision screening clinics, health fairs and other events.
