There were 30,342 students enrolled in Amarillo ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 1.7% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.1% of them were boys, and 48.9% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Amarillo ISD students was Hispanic, accounting for 46.9% of the student population.

Amarillo ISD roughly covers schools within Potter County with its main office in Amarillo.

Among the 55 schools in Amarillo ISD, Tascosa High School recorded the highest enrollment of 2,187 students in the 2022-23 school year.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
