AMARILLO COLLEGE: ADN nursing program granted continuing accreditation by ACEN

Nursing1

Amarillo College issued the following announcement on Aug. 19

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program at Amarillo College is pleased to announce that it has been awarded unconditional continuing accreditation by the Accreditation for Education in Nursing (ACEN) for the next eight years.

ACEN is recognized as the accrediting body for all types of nursing education by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. ACEN accreditation signals a nursing school’s commitment to educational excellence.

Achieving continuing accreditation by the ACEN involves a rigorous process that begins with the submission of a program self-study report. It involves an onsite visit by a team of program evaluators, followed by a peer review by a panel of evaluators appointed by the ACEN.

Eight years is the maximum the ACEN can award accreditation. AC’s next evaluation visit is scheduled for the fall 2027.

AC’s ADN program was established in 1968 and was granted its first national accreditation in April 1971. The program has enjoyed continuous accreditation since that time.

“We are extremely gratified by this official affirmation of what we do from our national accrediting agency, especially in that it was granted without any conditions,” said Dr. Sandra Brannan, director of the AC Nursing Program.

“Meeting the high standards of the ACEN demonstrates the excellence of our faculty and our commitment to excellence.”
