More than $132 million in federal coronavirus relief funds have been allocated to the Lubbock region.

Secured coronavirus relief funds have been distributed to the City of Lubbock, $14,113,000; Lubbock Airport, $9,535,889; Citibus, $9,604,633; Texas Tech University System, $42,682,412; and Lubbock Health Care Facilities, $56,516,061.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) spoke at Texas Tech University's Health Sciences Center where he was joined by Texas Tech University System Chancellor Dr. Tedd Mitchell, TTUHSC President Dr. Lori Rice-Spearman, and TTU President Dr. Lawrence Schovanec.

Cornyn toured TTUHSC's drive-thru clinic and viewed a simulated demonstration of a telehealth visit between rural patients and TTU physicians. He then was informed of the various medical equipment that TTUHSC purchased to fight the pandemic with the help of the CARES Act.

After the tour, Cornyn held a socially distanced news conference with the three university personnel, Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope and Mark Funderburk, president and CEO of UMC Medical System.
