The coronavirus isn’t stopping the infrastructure work of Xcel Energy, according to ABC 7 Amarillo. Still, the company is being even more intentional with safety measures, aiming to continue light service for residents.
Because Xcel Energy is perceived as an essential company, the government determined, it is able to stay in operation. Xcel Energy has said that the public and its customers are its number one concern, especially amid the coronavirus.
It’s complying with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention distancing and cleaning procedures, and has told any worker who doesn’t feel well or has well-known COVID-19 symptoms to stay home.
“We are taking the threat of COVID-19 extremely seriously and doing all we can to protect our employees, customers and the public during this challenging time," Casey Meeks, senior director for distribution operations in Amarillo, told ABC 7 Amarillo. "Our men and women in the field are critical to our ability to maintain safe and reliable electricity service for our customers and communities.”
