During the initial quarter of 2026, Five Points Nursing and Rehabilitation was among the four facilities sharing the position of second largest nursing home in Potter County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. It tied with Ussery Roan Texas State Veterans Home, Ware Memorial Care Center, and Windflower Health Center for this distinction.
The center made available 120 beds—7 above the Potter County average as of that quarter—and had an average census of 84.3 residents throughout those months.
Five Points Nursing and Rehabilitation received an overall rating of 3 out of 5 from CMS, surpassing the Texas state nursing home average of 2.7.
Amarillo Center for Skilled Care, by comparison, took the lead as the largest nursing home in Potter County with 122 available beds in the same quarter.
By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Five Points Nursing and Rehabilitation reported one fine totaling $12,740 and one penalty on record.
Potter County, Texas, recorded seven for-profit nursing homes at that time.
Based on U.S. Census Bureau estimates, the number of older adults in the country keeps rising while younger population segments decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans aged 65 and older grew by 13%, as those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Looked at over the past century, the nation’s older adult population has expanded significantly—from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.
A study from 2021 finds about half in this age bracket—roughly 28 million people—are likely to need long-term services and supports. The report also estimates that over one third of these adults could ultimately require care in a nursing home.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director at American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
